DVD A.LI.CE
image
Sharp transfer, with no compression problem.
sound
An overall good sound, no balance problem. The English dubbing is entertaining.
subtitles
Very readable with two font sizes at disposal. Sometime out of synch with the English dubbing, so it's not really a problem.
special features
The DVD includes the mini-bios of the director, the writer and the character designer; video trailers of A.Li.Ce and Blue Remains (same distributor) with optional subtitles; a gallery with 25 images from the movie, conceptual artwork and the synopsys; the front and back covers from A.Li.Ce and Blue Remains. Added to that, the two important materials are an interview of the director and a lecture from
Jonathan Clements named "Final Fantasies". The director interview, 37 minutes long, is optionally subtitled. It's quite interesting regarding the technical difficulties encountered on the project. "Final Fantasies" is 31 minutes long, and is an edited version of a lecture about the history digital animation given at "London Sci-Fi 2003". Mr Clements is a good lecturer and the video is interesting and entertaining, but the sound is slightly lagging, which is annoying.
menus
Except for the root menu, menus are made of still images. The buttons are not on a par with the rest.
quality/price ration
Correct price regarding the quality of the transfer and "Final Fantasies".
