DVD Shinjuku Triad Society
image
Lacks a bit of sharpness, which is easily understandable as this one of Miike's early misdeeds. A bona fide remasterization would not have come amiss. Enjoyable colours, still.
sound
Good dolby stereo sound which highlights some very over-the-top sound effects.
subtitles
Good.
special features
Interesting extras, including two interviews with director Miike, and one short interview of the film's editor Yasushi Shimamura. The longer interview allows us to discover how Miike and his pal producer Toshiki Kimura landed such an opportunity at Daiei. Also features a full length commentary by
Midnight Eye's main editor Tom Mes.
menus
Comes as a single DVD, or packed with the rest of the trilogy—Rainy dog and Ley lines—in a box-set. Single DVD tested here; neat cover and menus.
quality/price ration
Still a decent way to enjoy this interesting shocker for those eager to document the history of Miike's cinematographic madness.
All our thanks to
ArtsMagic USA for providing us with the DVD.
