DVD Rainy Dog
image
Fairly good, but there was nothing particular to expect from this dull-lit footage. Good sharpness compared to this publisher's standards nonetheless.
sound
A good dolby stereo sound which manages to convey some depth at the most crucial points (yep, gunshots!)
subtitles
Excellent throughout the film, a bit synthetic for the interviews, perhaps.
special features
A lengthy interview with Takashi Miike where the director explains, among other subjects, how the idea of this false sequel came to his mind. He also talks of his longstanding partnership with actor Sho Aikawa. Editor Yasushi Shimamura also sits.
Midnight Eye's main editor Tom Mes provides us with a full-length commentary.
menus
Surprising cover as Sho Aikawa's character, the main one, is curiously absent from it. Otherwise good.
quality/price ration
A decent way to enjoy this surprisingly relatively conventional piece by Miike.
All our thanks to
ArtsMagic USA for providing us with the DVD.
